Description

Star Trails over the Badlands - Right across the street from the Visitor Center at Badlands National Park, South Dakota. The foreground illumination is from distant vehicle lights as they approached and entered the park through the Interior, South Dakota entrance...a small town just south of the park. This resulted in "image 1." I used Star Stacking software to incorporate 125 images (each at 30 seconds shutter speed for a total duration of 70 minutes or so). This resulted in "image 2." The camera is pointed to the north, to ensure the North Star is visible. The North Star, or Polaris, is the single "dot" towards the top right. All other stars rotate around the North Star in a counter-clockwise fashion. I then used Photoshop to combine "image 1"(the foreground) "image 2" (the star trails).
