Description

This guy’s name is Walker. He was making good use of the cove to fish at Brooks known as “The Office” since its usual occupant, Otis, was not there. The closest vantage point to see the bear at the falls is the Brooks platform, but shooting time was limited with the number of people who arrived to see and photograph. So this image was hand-held from the Riffles Platform, the alternate viewing point about 100 yards away from the falls. The longest lens I had with me that day was the 100-400mm L glass, and there were too many people to effectively use a tripod, so I was grateful for multi-burst shooting and the image stabilization of that lens to get a few in focus! Brooks Falls, Katmai NP, July 2023.
